open the floodgate

here i am to spill the beans on this band.

here’s a quick history lesson for anyone just joining us this evening.

almost two years, we released an album called ‘Wonderland’.  it was an album that i was extremely proud of.  it had everything i loved about music.  colorful chords, interesting song structures, creative melodies.  it was poppy but it was smart.  we were all very proud of it.  and with the team of people behind the scenes, we were very excited at the potential impact the album could have.  the album was being released on fueled by ramen, who had been (and still is) pumping out sensation after sensation.  we had an awesome booking agent who believed in our sound.  and we had a rather powerful manager to oversee our career’s each and every step. everything should have gone perfectly, right?

for lack of a better analogy, a tripod can only stand when all three legs support equal weight.  deep into wonderland’s cycle, and much to our dismay, our tripod tumbled to the ground.  our dream team had been trounced by the russians.  and wonderland suffered because of it.  we continued to tour, nonetheless.  we toured our little butts off.  wonderland has sold around 12,000 copies to date.  to think that 12,000 people out there own a physical copy of the songs we worked so hard on is astounding.  however, when compared with our expectations (and our little two-legged tripod’s expectations) the number is a blaring reminder of what could have been.

the frustration surrounding wonderland’s slow growth began to get to us.  we were at each other’s necks.  i became a prick.  i was rude to everyone around me.  i had always been the band’s own personal manager.  i dealt with the label, our agent, our manager. managed our funds. maintained everything on the internet. directions, merch, van trouble, blahblahblah. i took care of everything, and was happy to do so. but i started resenting the rest of the band for not appreciating my hard work. and they helped less and less because of the way i was.  i became a martyr in my own mind. the distance grew, and peaked while we were in australia.  i feel like i spent those 12 days by myself.

when we returned home we had a band meeting.  thomas told me he was quitting.  he wasn’t happy doing this with us (translation: me) anymore.  jesse was quitting, too.  he was engaged and wanted to return to school and settle into a normal life.  a month later, andy called me to tell me he was joining them in retirement.  it was over.  my dream had reached its end.

when i got home, i called my brother paul.  he’s a music composition major at western washington university.  i asked him if he wanted to help me make an album.  i lived at casey’s studio for a month, wrote during the week and paul came home on weekends and we would record.  you won’t believe the crazy record that came out.  rudy from gatsbys played drums. i can’t wait for all of you to hear it.

one thing that thomas was never able to get over was the feeling that forgive durden had always been my band.  he was just a visitor.  as much as i tried to let him in, durden was my baby.  he was more like the crazy uncle.  we hung out a few days ago and decided to write a few songs together.  it felt great.

i’m sure it’s hard to imagine a band continuing when 3/4ths of the members up and leave.  and that’s part of the reason i’ve waited months to announce anything.  i wanted to make sure i could continue doing this properly.  besides missing thomas’ crazy faces (and newfound gallagher-esque mustache) at our live shows, we won’t miss a beat.  things could have gone differently but they didn’t.  and i’m finally okay with that.  i’m ready to earn it the hard way.  i couldn’t be more excited about the next chapter for forgive durden.  please feel free to ask me any question anytime, and i will try and answer as honestly as i can. thank you guys for sticking with me and supporting good music. you’re the reason i’m still able to do this.

  1. Dan Says:

Since Gatsbys is on an iffy status right now, is Rudy going to be playing drums for Forgive Durden now?

  2. Denise Says:

Wow. I think I read this four times and I’m still sitting here thinking “what?” I’m not sure what to say. I think it was incredibly brave of you to share this with us. Your honesty is astounding to me. I think it shows just how much reflection you’ve been doing. I also want to say that I saw you twice during 2007 *is so thankful* and I witnessed just how much hard work goes into your touring. You guys worked so hard and appeared to get little recognition or reward. From a fan’s perspective I had to believe that you guys were just happy to be out there playing your music and doing what you love because it seemed like you gave so much and got back so little. Wonderland is such an amazing piece of art and I’ve always wished it would have been received and loved by more people. I know the people I shared it with became fans and appreciated it. If only I knew 1,000,000 people, damn I’m sorry I don’t.

I felt so relieved when you said you had recorded a new CD and even more relieved to hear you say you are ok and excited about the future of Forgive Durden. I would like to point out though that you HAVE been earning it the hard way and I think you should acknowledge that. Obviously it has been a tough road with challenges (and it sounds like disappointment) at every turn. A lot of people would have just given up and said ‘oh well, that’s that.’ I’ve always thought you had something valuable to share through your music and I’m very grateful to know you will continue. I’m sure I’m not alone in that sentiment. And I hope you feel proud of your accomplishments with Wonderland. It may not have been what you hoped for, however, it did reach people and those people are devoted and eager for more. You can count on us to stick with you. thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you

I hope you will please excuse me if I’m asking too many questions, but my head is a little spinny right now. Hopefully these are questions other people are wondering about too.

Will your new CD will be released by FBR under Forgive Durden?
Any idea when it will be released?
What did you name the new CD?
I heard there was absolutely no guitar on it, is that true?
Will you go on tour this summer with it?
You said “we” do you have new member?
You said your tripod only had two legs did you get the third leg back in place?
Do you feel relieved having told us? Are you worried about fan responses to this news?

shew… ok enough, sorry I didn’t mean to go on and on. Thomas Dutton I really admire you.

  3. Patrick Says:

all I can say is wow

  4. Sara Says:

Denise really covered everything I’m feeling right now after reading this but I’d just like to add that I am so happy you decided to keep going with Forgive Durden. You will forever be my favorite band, even if it’s just you now Thomas. I don’t know what i would have done if you had decided to call it quits. Wonderland is the greatest album in the whole world in my opinion and I really cannot wait to hear the new album. I hope you will keep us all updated on release dates and tour info and i want you to know that your music is the only thing that keeps me sane.

  5. marci Says:

i have faith in you [guys]

  6. natalie Says:

thank you for being honest about everything. it’s really appreciated.

it’s really shitty that some things fell apart, but keep doing what you do, man. i can’t wait to see what you’ve got planned.

  7. Dustin Says:

Wow. I’m really quite shocked by this.
I’m glad you are still continuing, but I’m kind of nervous to see what will occur. I hope you prove me wrong and release an amazing album; I have faith you in small T.

also, on a side note, if you need a drummer, in all honesty, I could help you out, although you probably know tons of them. I’m able to play all of wonderland, and would gladly learn the new stuff.
    just a thought.

    sincerely,
    dustin

  8. Thomas Says:

Wow, I love you guys, seeing you all live last year was one of my best memories of ‘07.

I’m interested in what’s to come

    Thomas

  9. Weebs Says:

    This post: 6/10

can’t wait to hear the new stuff.

  10. Celestina Says:

I’m going to agree with everyone and say I really appreciate your honesty. Oddly today as I was listening to Wonderland I was wondering how you guys were doing, I didn’t expect to get my answer so quickly. I really wish the best for everyone and will continue to support Forgive Durden. I’m happy to say I was one of those 12,000. :)
But I am curious too if Forgive Durden will stay with FBR.

  11. Dan and the Canadians Says:

a little disheartened by what has happened but happy you were able to persevere. We had a great few days in maryland and tried to go out to every buffalo show you had. Hope you come back sometime soon with new material we can dance our asses off to.

  12. Christa Says:

This is sad, of course, but I love you and your music nonetheless. I’ve liked you since before signing onto FBR, and I will continue to love and support you through everything. As long as there is still music, I will be there. Keep it up, Thomas!

  13. Ron Howard Says:

I’m glad the music is continuing on, Wonderland is one of my favorite albums of all time and I am excited to hear what more is to come from your creative mind. Once you get back touring I’d love to have you on a show again in Michigan (You played a show with the company I work for about a year ago in the Detroit area).

  14. bobby Says:

I heard your new record is based on that Lindsay Lohan movie I Know Who Killed Me? That’s what everyone is saying on absolutepunk.net.

  15. Angela M. Says:

I would like you to know that I will always be very proud of you for everything that you’ve done. Forgive Durden won’t ever be the same, but it’s very possible that it will be better.

Really, I’m just glad to know what is going on, and I am just relieved to know that you’re doing ok.

    Please take care.

  16. Robert Says:

I knew something fishy was up, after not hearing updates from the band in months…no worries though, you still are and have always been fully and completely backed by me as a genuinely incredible artist/musician/human, and if you ever need a place to stay in New Jersey for whatever reason, I’m here for ya(I know that probably came off as really creepy). Also, I know you’re going to need new promos, and I love about a half hour outside of NYC, so if you decide to venture out here sometime soon or whatever, I’ll hook you up!

p.s.-I’m dying to hear some new tunes, make it happen.

  17. Katie Rose Says:

I can’t seem to wrap my head around it. It’s bittersweet for me and I’m sure everyone else. Right now I’m just being selfish and thinking “oh no…what will I do?” but I have faith in anything you set out to do. If you need help with anything, especially since I’m in the seattle area (aka bellevue) just let me know, I’ve been part of the street team for almost two years and will do anything I can to help get the word out.

Time for a fresh start, right?

  18. thomas Says:
thank you guys very much for all your support. to answer some questions… the new album will be released on FBR as Forgive Durden in late spring/early summer. andy was the only other founding member. no new permanent members yet. johnny minardi (our a&r guy at fbr) and i have been acting as our tripod’s third leg (i really wish i would have taken a second to come up with something better than that…) for some time now, but we’ll soon have a full team behind us again.

it’s weird, all of this happened a few months ago, so me (and the other guys) are all very comfortable with the situation now. it hasn’t even really felt like much of a secret for a while now. i’m relieved that all you guys know now, though. the biggest worry for me with this whole thing is the ‘post-wonderland’ talk, where people will inevitably compare anything i do from here on out to wonderland and the song writing that thomas and i did on that record.

  19. thomas Says:
the new album is the most ambitious thing i’ve ever done musically.
  20. Samantha Ivy Says:

Oh my God, I can’t believe this…I want you to know, all of you, that you guys are one of the most original and inspiring bands out there…I’ve been with you since the beginning, whether you know it or not, and I’m sticking with you until the end.

I hope your new record sounds amazing, and I’m glad that you’re so confident about it…who knows…maybe it was all for the best…? I mean, maybe a fresh start will help with some new energy and ideas…after all, no band wants to write the same record twice, eh?

  21. _Marcie Says:

I’d heard “rumors” about this before, and I was just waiting for you to confirm it…but with that water under the bridge, I am so fucking glad that you’re going to continue making music. Wonderland was definitely one of the best albums I’ve heard, and I cant wait to hear the follow up to it. :)

  22. Mikeal Timms Says:

thank god….i was almost brokenhearted when i read that 3 members left….but a new record and future for forgive durden….makes me so much happier and thankful…forgive durden has influenced my new music ni so many ways…..wonderland is so genius….just as the dear hunters albums…and gatsby….just keep recording music buddy….ill be up there with ya someday….i seem to think by the way you write…and the way you explain things, that you are similar to me….and hopefully with my new demos….unreleased until next month….ill be able to open up with the audience…and stand honred to open a show for you….

P.S. FORGIVE DURDEN has a huge future and ive seen it completely since the construction of wonderland.

  23. Alicia Says:

Thomas you are amazing and I give you major props for continuing. I was worried for a second that you’d call it quits all together, but the fact you’re going to keep doing what you do is amazing. The new album will be a masterpiece just like everything else Forgive has done and I can’t wait.

  24. Jerry Heine Says:

Crazy thing to wake up to this morning, but if anyone can make this work, its you thomas! We will always continue to support you here in colorado. Say hi to jesse for us :)

  25. arely Garcia Says:

I’m not worried about the future of Forgive Durden. A bit sad things turned out this way, but things happen for a reason and i’m sure you’ll do fine. I’m in it for the long haul. I’ll pre-order the new cd just like I did the last. I’ll keep listening to wonderland and when you’re not alone you’re not alone, and i’ll keep wearing my sweet forgive durden shirts. My wonderland poster will still hang on my apt wall. Keep doing what you do because I sincerely appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Your music helps my world go round. Thank you.

  26. Doug Says:

I’m so glad to hear your not giving up. And I really wish that the first album, on FBR, was more of a success. Ive searched long and hard to get your old music and everything I’ve gotten has been great. Listening to your music, even all the older stuff, has been amazing and I really appreciate all your doing to keep producing new stuff. Cant wait to hear more from one of my favorite bands. Good luck in this new year.

  27. lizzie Says:

I really respect you for telling us and for not taking the easy way out and giving up. keep making music and the best of luck with the new album.

  28. julie Says:

honestly, I am really proud of you. I had no idea this was going on but i am really happy there is still going to be a forgive durden. I loved wonderland with all my heart and I have nothing but high expectations for the next one. I really believe you can do this and i can’t wait to see how it will turn out. Whatever happend or whatever will happen, just know that your fans are always here for you. Your music is like nothing I have ever heard. If your next cd is half as good as Wonderland I will be a happy girl. Good luck and thank you for the amazing music.

  29. Kyle Says:

I love your band. I’m so glad you’re continuing on and I hope the next record gets the sales number it deserves.

  30. kevin Says:

oh damn. wow im totally speechless. that is ridiculous. im sorry it all went down that way man. i remember when i met you - you were the nicest guy. i dont think any of us had any idea that there was trouble in the band, but i guess it is a little clearer if you think about it - youre the only one posting on this site. well i just want you to know YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT AND LOYALTY BRO, im totally buyin whatever music you as Forgive Durden or solo come out with because i love your sound and appreciate the words you sing. i know thats may be over-dramatic, which i usually am, but im serious. im totally backin you bro and i wish you and the new band all the best. cant wait to hear whatever you put out - im sure itll be 100% dutton and 100% amazing ha anyways man. best of luck - i think its safe to say were all proud of you for taking this much pride in the band to make sure it remains true to what you made it to be. take care.

  31. cj Says:

one of the best records of 06, i’ve been waiting for the follow-up and i couldn’t be more excited

  32. Rachel Says:

I really am amazed about this.

I expected you guys to do great things too. Once i heard Wonderland i was completely floored by the creativity and intelligence with which the music was created. I have eagerly awaited the next album, and it really truly makes me happy that you have continued to persevere.

Im glad you chose to go in a different direction with this new album. I dont generally enjoy a static band with little ambition, and right from the get go i knew you werent a band to fit that mold.

I hope you guys eventually get the recognition you deserve. Your fans believe in you more than you do yourself.

Stay strong, for all of us.
    x

  33. Sateen Says:

you guys and the hush sound were the only bands i thought were amazingly good on FBR.As in, i pretty much worshipped Forgive Durden <3.It’s reallly sad that you guys broke up, but i’m glad you’re still continuing the wonders of Forgive Durden.I love you.Seriously.Ilovelovelovelovelove you. <33333

  34. alyse Says:

    Wow.

After reading (and re-reading) that, I must say, thank you for being completely honest with us. I’m still a little shocked that this band will carry on with (as of now) only one solid member; on the other hand, I am elated that you are willing to continue making fantastic music. I cannot wait to hear the new music. I can only hope that it receives the recognition that it deserves.

Now, please excuse me, I must go alter the ‘check out this band’ article I wrote for my school paper on you.
    :)

  35. Keirsten Says:

aww. i’m so shocked. wow and for a while ive been like “where’s forgive durden been?!”
if it had been someone else that stayed and you left, id be so sad that id probably never listen again because your voice is just so…amazing.

    [ can i become a member?! ;) ]

  36. Zachary Says:

All I have to say is that I am not worried in the slightest. I have been with you since When You’re Alone, You’re Not Alone, back when Big T wasn’t in the band. Every song on that record holds a special place in my heart and is just as amazing as everything on Wonderland.

I am fricking stoked to hear there is already a new record recorded! Since you did it with Casey I know we’re in good hands. And NOW I finally know what Rudy has been up to! = )

You guys are amazing and one of the two bands on this earth (Gatsbys) that has really resonated with me in my entire lifetime.

    Thank you for that.

  37. Denise Says:

I was thinking about what you said regarding “post-Wonderland” talk and people always comparing what you write to that. It’s really not a bad thing to have such an amazing benchmark. At the very least it gives credibility to you as a musician and therefore people will of course judge you on a higher standard because they expect more from you. But really, as you said about Phantom Planet, muscians ebb and flow, grow, develop and change. I think the key here would be to remember that people ARE intersted in what you will do next. You’ve got an attentive intelligent audience and there are a lot of bands who would kill for that kind of recognition and respect from their fans.

hmmmm “ambitious”, well that tells me, um nothing. Can you tell me if there is a clarinet on the album? Or a glockenspiel?

  38. ariel Says:

i’m so upset about this. but i really respect the way you’ve handled all of this. i wish all of you nothing but the best of luck in all of your future endeavors. i look forward to hearing some great things from/about you in the not too distant future.

thomas - if you’re going to continue forgive durden you can’t let fbr keep toying with you. it’s about time you got the kind of support you deserve from a label and that you haven’t received at all from them. do yourself a favor and get out of there and find a label that will give you the recognition you’ve deserved for years.

  39. ariel Says:

and by upset, i mean disappointed about the end of this chapter of forgive durden. i didn’t mean for it to sound so dismal. i am truly excited for what is to come and i really commend you for your honesty, integrity and perseverance.

  40. Chris Says:

Everyone has left really nice comments so far and its good to hear people are going to stick behind you, i am going to but i am interested to see what the new album will be like musically, it makes me sad to think that Big T is gone from what i have read and this is just my understanding please correct me if i am wrong he had alot to do with the “music” side of things on wonderland and you contributed more in a lyrical sense?

he is what inspired me to start studying jazz which i am doing at a special college here in australia, to me i could really feel his jazz influence all throughout wonderland. so i hope that the new album will not lose that feel and style

i wish you the best of luck thomas, i will continue to support

    take care

    Chris

  41. kevin Says:

totally forgot to include my questions about the cd!

when do you think youll be releasing the first single to get us stoked for the cd? lol

will the song “Missing Piece” be included on this album? will the songs on it be similar in style?

will it have a more acoustic/less .. idk how to say it.. “cluttered” maybe.. sound to it since youre still lookin for permanent members and will have to perform it yourself in the mean time?

do you hit any crazy vocal notes on it man? because you got a sick ass voice - will we be hearing the full range of it?

will you be touring with the new cd after its release? can we expect you at Bamboozle or Warped Tour?

and last question - kind of personal, dont answer if you dont want to, do you miss the other guys not being there with you for this?

anyways those are all my questions. best of luck. ill try to stop fillin up this blog site with all my comments, honestly! ha

  42. Mike Says:

I’ve been a huge fan of your work since Wonderland came out, I had the pleasure of playing with your band on one of the dates of your tour with Gatsbys and Portugal The Man. Irronicly I’ve been saying to my friends since then “I wish they needed a bass player.”… Now I don’t know if you do or not, but on the off chance that you’re looking to put together a new group of people for Forgive Durden I would love the chance to try it out. The plus to this is I roll with an extremelly confident and talented drummer, and a guitarist that more than compliments the style present on wonderland. If this is at all appealing to you, please contact me via E-mail or my myspace account. We all have professional gear and touring experience and are getting pretty bored out here on the east coast.

    holla.<3.Mike

  43. thomas Says:
    kevin

FIRST SINGLE? we haven’t set the release date yet, so i can’t say exactly when we’ll start putting some music up. spring is the most specific i can be at this point.
MISSING PIECE? this song is on the album, but it sounds vastly different than my acoustic live performance of it.
NEW SOUND? my brother paul and i have already finished all the music on the record and the best way i can describe it is insane. definitely more cluttered than not.
TOUR? we will be touring on the new record. probably hitting the road in april. hopefully at bamboozle and warped, but we’ll see.
MISS THE BOYZ? i haven’t toured at all without them yet, so it’s hard to say what tour will be like. however, the four of us grew up a lot over the past 3 years. we each matured and changed as individuals. they were my best friends in the world for a while, but at this point in our lives, we’re all into different things. i couldn’t be more excited about surrounding myself with people who have the same focus as me with succeeding in a band.

please keep commenting, though, that’s what this blog is all about!

  44. thomas Says:
    chris,
i’m glad thomas inspired you to pursue jazz in college. he is a fantastic guitar player. as far as the writing on wonderland, i’ll try and break down our writing process for that record. there are some parts of the album where thomas wrote the music and melody (see: ‘a dead person breathed on me’). there are other parts of the album that i wrote the music and melody for (see: the second halves of ‘the great affair is to move’ and ‘for a dreamer night’s the only time of day’). the majority of the time, though, thomas and i would talk a lot about what kind of song we wanted to write. he would come up with some guitar chords/riffs, respectively, and teach them to me. i would mess around with them and morph them to fit with a melody and lyrics i had written. i would take this back to thomas and he would add some silver lining. i would then structure the song and write the drum part, and thomas and i would add a bass part together. i hope thomas’ absence on the new material won’t scare you away from durden’s next album. i think you’ll be pleasantly surprised to hear some of the amazing progressions my brother and i worked on for the new album. also, thomas’ touch will still be felt somewhat in durdenland, as we have already started writing some new songs together for a future album.
  45. Chris Says:

thanks for the reply i really appreciate the willingness to answer peoples questions, I look forward to hearing everything that is coming in the future, =] once again good luck hope everything goes well for you.

my band may be playing some warped tour dates this year if we are in your town it would be sweet to meet up

  46. Zachary Says:

did I just read that you and thomas are writing songs together for a future album, or was i dreaming?

  47. Dan Says:

    That was awesome. Good man!

  48. Jeannie Says:

    Thomas,
I’ve been thinking about how to reply to this blog for a little bit now. I guess the only way to start is that I found out about all of this at the end of July when someone told me about the departure of Jesse and Thomas, who then confirmed it when I accidentally ran into them at Pike’s Place the day I flew into Seattle. I’ll admit that my faith in Forgive Durden was beginning to fade because I thought it would be the end and you guys would be thrown onto the list of my favorite bands that threw in the towel (i.e. Gatsby’s, even though they remain one of my favorite bands). After reading everything you had to say, it really restored my confidence in the upcoming album, Forgive Durden, and music in general (as you are one of the most underrated bands out there in the “scene”). I really commend your being open with your fans, and keeping it as honest as possible, because I know many bands like to tell fuzzy stories. I know I’ve been repeating a lot of the things that people have said in other replies, but you really are one of my favorite bands (and have been since I saw you at Bamboozle ’06 and 8 other times after) and Wonderland is still one of my favorite albums. So keep writing! “Missing Piece” is a fantastic song and I really can’t wait to hear the rest of the album because I know it will be amazing. Hope you’re doing well, please post up a demo soon! See you on tour soon!

    -Jeannie
P.S. Do you have any b-sides you’ve recorded or any demos you’ve done on your own, that isn’t for the upcoming album? If so, would you post them?
P.P.S. I know this is a silly question and will never happen again, but can someone do something about a Stampeding Machines Reunion Tour? Specifically the leg of the tour when it was Gatsby’s, Portugal, and Forgive Durden because those are my 3 favorite bands on one tour and that rarely ever happens to a person. If Gatsby’s reunion is not an option how about Kay Kay, Wild Orchid Children, and/or Red, Red, Blue (Hell, might as well throw in Search/Rescue too)? I’m okay with that. Haha.

  49. Jeannie Says:

P.P.P.S. I thought I’d just add something to go along with my already long reply. The second half of “For A Dreamer…” is my favorite part in all of Wonderland. It’s brilliant!

  50. thomas Says:
    zach,
thomas and i always loved writing together. it was our relationship on tour that caused the eventual separation. now that we’ve had time and space apart, we get along great again. in fact, i went over to his place last week and we talked about music and showed each other stuff that we’ve been jamming lately. we started messing around with a guitar riff he had been working on. hopefully you’ll see it in a durden record someday. on the album that’s already complete, he helped write two songs. we’re going to try and write a few more together for the following record.
  51. thomas Says:
thanks for the support jeannie, it means a lot! i’ll see what i can do about a stampeding machines tour; that was one of the best tours i’ve ever been a part of. there’s a bunch of demos and versions of songs that paul and i did that didn’t end up making this new record, so i’ll start posting some here and there.
  52. Scott Says:

Wow…only just heard this news. I appreciate that you’re going to strive on without the others. I will be waiting eagerly for the new material. I count myself lucky that i got to see you guys in Brisbane, Australia. Got to meet you all except for yourself because you were sick, literally (remember that?), and almost didn’t play that day. Hope you can make it out to Australia again one day. And for the record both myself and my gf bought a copy of Wonderland. My collection wouldn’t be complete without it!

  53. Hummy Says:

I love everything Forgive Durden has done. Wonderland has changed my life, got me thinking about many more things, and made me see everything in a different way. Hell, I never read a book since 5th grade, but reading this blog got me to go out and read Slaughtermatic. My girlfriend had got it for me because I was always telling her you read it so I do as well. I’m looking forward to the songs, I am very happy you are continuing to create such beautiful music.

  54. Patrick Says:

If you get onto Warped Tour this year, I beg for you with all your power to play the Buffalo Date.

  55. Patrick Says:

    wow, that made no scence?

  56. Patrick Says:

just play around the buffalo are sometime

  57. Zachary Says:

thomas, i had a relationship like that with my former guitarist as well, and ironically enough we’re writing music together again too. i am really excited to hear that, you guys are both amazing musicians.

  58. Terri Says:

I just wanted to say that I will always support you, know matter what you do. Wonderland is one of my favorite albums, the music and lyrics are wonderful. The lyrics are actually my favorite part.
But what’s important is that you’re still going to make music. You also get a lot of credit for realizing your mistakes and being able to own up to them, a lot of people can’t (or won’t) do that.
I just wanted you to know that I’ll always support you, and I won’t stop being a fan.

  59. Ti Says:

i seriously am speechless. i don’t know what to say.
you guys have been my favorite band for so long, and i have always loved everything you’ve done. i’ve been to two of your concerts and was hoping for more, but things happen for a reason.

i hope things turn out for the best for all of you. i hope this doesn’t mean you’re going to stop your musical output, thomas, because you’re amazing at what you do.

    the best of luck.

  60. Lin Says:

    wow.
this is unbelieveable. to tell you the truth when you guys were in sydney something felt off, but because i didnt know what was actually going on i just thought you were just avoiding people cause you were sick and thought you might give them your disease (hahahaha. jokes).

its weird cause Forgive Durden are my FAVOURITE band, and have been for so long. it just feels like all this cant be possible for some reason. more like i dont want it to be true.
but im glad that i was able to see you guys twice while you were out here in sydney :).
hopefully you will come back… yes?

in one of your replies you said something about people comparing what you do next to wonderland, but i know and every fan out there knows that what you show us next will be incredible. i will support you and your music forEVER! thanks for wonderland and thanks for giving it to me :D. (you probabaly dont remember that)

    sorry for the cheesy comment.
but thanks so much for doing what you do :D.

    good luck.
but you wont need it :D

whoa. i read about this just yesterday on absolutepunk, and i thought it wasn’t true, and i couldn’t bring myself to believe the news until now, it was just shocking.
but thomas, i will always be a fan, i love wonderland soooo much (i think it’s an astounding work of art), and will always support forgive durden.
even though i am so far away (i live in indonesia).

    keep the faith

  64. Jordan Says:

I remember going to one of your shows in Cleveland, opening for Piebald, mwY, Say Anything. I remember thinking, why does it seem like I’m the only one who’s singing along.

You guys never got the type of exposure that this album deserved. All of my friends that I ever showed you to loved you. Since you’re on FBR, I find it very hard to believe that such a great album didn’t sell more.

At the show you guys didn’t seem to be having fun. At the time, I had the thought that there had been some type of big argument recently or something. Never ever thought it would cause them to leave.

Keep up the good fight. I’m looking forward to hearing what you’ve got in store for us.

    ~jordan

  65. Josh Says:

I always meant to buy Wonderland, but I never got round to it. After I saw you play with Panic! At The Disco, I was converted. Your music is fantastic, I can’t wait to here new material. I also think it’s amazing how strong willed you are. Most normal people would have given up if 3 band members left, but what you’re doing is truely fantastic, and it’s what’s keeping music alive. You’re a massive inspiration for myself, and probably many more alike. Keep going strong. I hope you plan to tour the UK too when everything starts up again. Cant wait for another live Durden show.

  66. Carly Says:

In high school I was a dedicated Durden fan. I went to shows at least once a weekend. My favorite show ever is still the kick-off tour where afterwards the Thomas’s played an acoustic show in the parking lot. It was like 3 days before I left for college and it was the perfect Seattle send off. I still remember the feeling of listening to their music, their words, their life. I went off to school and 5 states away they played a great show, with few fans there (I think there was two of us), and they played my first day of school. I know it sounds slightly cheesy and a bit ridiculous, but it made the transition so much easier. I will never forget Durden’s music… and what they have given me, and us. So thank you Thomas for continuing, your voice is perfect, your words are even more perfect. And you will always have a place in my heart.

The world we live in was not ready for this band. From the moment i heard and grasped that album, i knew that there are few people on this earth that could produce such a product. It blows my mind that some people can’t see at least some of the meaning behind it. The songwriting displayed on the album “Wonderland” is the work of a genius, as cliche as it may sound i believe its true. I’m glad to own one of the 12,000.

  70. Becca Says:

Oh so happy to hear the band is moving forward (actually just lent my Wonderland CD to a coworker about an hour ago), but alas I have a question about the past. Is there any way to get my hands on a copy of When You’re Alone, You’re Not Alone??!!! I would be eternally grateful. :)
    Thank you!!!

  71. Miranda Says:

i was worried when i saw that the others had went their seperate ways. i thought i saw the end, quite frankly. however, i deeply thank you for keeping it alive. i’m no longer apprehensive about the future of Forgive Durden. thank you.

    (stay dangerous. cheers)
