Here’s a video of Sigur Rós performing “Untitled #1″ live on Last Call with Carson Daly. I actually prefer listening to this over the album version because of the added prominence of Jónsi’s ending melody. If I were an actor, I would summon thoughts of this song for my big crying scene.
So strap on your headphones and blast the shit. Plus, what other band is given seven and a half minutes of performance time on network television? If I ever met an alien, this is what I would show them as an example of “music”. Skip to the five minute mark if there’s ants in your pants.
And so will the new Hulk. The intertubes have been boiling lately with inevitable hatred for the new green guy but I still have faith. And it’s begun to garner some great reviews (like “just as good as Iron Man”. Yeah, I said. Or quoted it, anyway).
At least once a day, I make sure to take the time to sit down and listen to a song with headphones on; and with complete focus. I don’t use the song to invoke thoughts about me or my life. I hone in on the song and all its beautiful details. I listen for things I’ve never heard before. I close my eyes and let it take me with it. So I decided to start posting a song once a week to share with you guys. Go grab your headphones. Close your eyes. And for four minutes or so, really listen.
This week, I bring you “This Woman’s Work” by Kate Bush. Enjoy!
SIDE NOTE: Do you guys think I should post more regularly on the blog? Like once a day rather than once a week? Let me know!
back in 1991, i wasn’t having any fun
’til my roommate said “come on” and put a brand new record on
had a baby on it
he was naked on it
then i heard the chords that broke the chains i had upon me
got together with my bros in some rehearsal studios
then we played our first rock show
and watched a fan base start to grow
signed a deal that gave the dough to make a record of our own
song come on the radio now people go “this is the song”.
